Devi
Devi
Art Quilt - handmade, handstitched and handcut
A 3,400 year old legend
Devi was an orphan who lived during 1400 BCE. She lost both her parents at an early age and was raised by her maternal family. Known for her extraordinary beauty, she was the most sought-after maiden in the land. Legend has it she spoke with animals and carried within her the spirit of the Indus Valley. During her time, the harvests were bountiful, water flowed freely and the gods were kind.
However, despite her charm, Devi never found true love. She eventually died of loneliness and sadness. Her death angered the gods, who in their fury set out to punish the people. This marked the beginning of climate change, with reduced rainfall, droughts and poor crops which ultimately led to the downfall of the Indus Valley Civilization.
